The Maldives has been in political turmoil since Feb. 1 when the Supreme Court ordered the release of imprisoned political opponents and the reinstatement of 12 lawmakers sacked after they sided with the opposition. In order to refrain from implementing the order, President had declared State Of emergency for 15 days on 5 Feb 2018 . During emergency Yameen has arrested two supreme court justice as well as his half brother and former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. As of now Yesterday, an extraordinary sitting of the parliament ended with 39 ruling party PPM MPs voted in favor of extension state of emergency by another 15 days while opposition boycotted the sitting. Constitution provisions demand participation of 43 members to pass a motion.

Democracy has become a mere joke in Maldives. An elected President has become a dictator. Maldivians are raising their voice both by protesting against the Government on ground and by writing on social media. Now it is time for the world to break its silence, otherwise Maldives, known as the paradise won’t survive for long.
