The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), said they won’t accept the inauguration of President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu if the current Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, remains in his job.

The MDP started a vote to remove Nasheed from his position on October 9, and 49 MDP members of Parliament supported this move. They officially told Nasheed and other MPs about this on October 12. Even though they plan to discuss this vote in the upcoming parliamentary session, the MDP members are very serious about it.

The leader of the MDP Parliamentary Group, Mohamed Aslam, said it’s essential to get rid of Nasheed before they do any other parliamentary work. The MDP has decided they won’t agree to Dr. Muizzu becoming president in November unless Nasheed is removed. They also made it clear they won’t support Muizzu’s team unless Nasheed is impeached.
