China announced multiple sanctions against Trump administration officials on Wednesday, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, just as former President Trump’s term ends and President Biden’s administration begins.

The list of officials included Pompeo, Assistant to the President Peter Navarro, Assistant Secretary of State David Stilwell, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and former Trump adviser Stephen Bannon.

These individuals and their immediate family members are prohibited from entering the mainland, Hong Kong and Macao of China. They and companies and institutions associated with them are also restricted from doing business with China .

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the  China’s Foreign Ministry “Over the past few years, some anti-China politicians in the United States, out of their selfish political interests and prejudice and hatred against China and showing no regard for the interests of the Chinese and American people, have planned, promoted and executed a series of crazy moves which have gravely interfered in China’s internal affairs, undermined China’s interests, offended the Chinese people, and seriously disrupted China-U.S. relations. The Chinese government is firmly resolved to defend China’s national sovereignty, security and development interests. China has decided to sanction 28 persons who have seriously violated China’s sovereignty “

The move came after former Secretary Pompeo declared that , “China is committing genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang, China, targeting Uyghur Muslims and members of other ethnic and religious minority groups”

But China has repeatedly rejected accusations of abuse in its Xinjiang region, where a United Nations panel has said at least 1 million Uighurs and other Muslims had been detained in camps.
