Aminath Naushan Abdul Muhaimin has resigned from her post as the Secretary General of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).

She reportedly tendered her resignation last week after giving one month’s notice, in accordance with commission regulations. Naushan confirmed that her decision was made for personal reasons.

Before being appointed Secretary General in 2022, Naushan served as the Director of the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) at the commission.

Her resignation comes at a time when the commission is facing growing public concern over its handling of key human rights investigations and its failure to address the worsening rights situation in the country.

The HRCM has not yet issued an official statement regarding her departure, while several rights advocates continue to call for greater independence and accountability within the commission.
