Former Chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Deputy Speaker of People’s Majlis, Reeko Moosa Manik has rejoined the main ruling party, MDP.

The party officially announced his rejoining on Tuesday.

MP Moosa started out his political career with MDP. He remained an active and loyal member until his dismissal from the party in 2014. Moosa was kicked for violating the MDP’s whip-line in a vote to remove two Supreme Court judges. Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) disciplinary committee took action against him after his absence from a parliamentary vote to dismiss former Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz and Justice Muthasim Adnan.

Reeko Mosa to this day maintains that he was dismissed because he announced his intentions of wanting to challenge Nasheed in the MDP’s 2018 presidential primary. He has also previously made some remarks against Nasheed saying that MDP is under the dictatorship of Nasheed, which is why many members had to exit from the party.

Although Moosa’s expulsion from the party was announced in 2014, parliament removed him from the MDP’s parliamentary group only in Feb 2017. Not long after, he joined PPM on 11th July 2017. Moosa Manik played an important role in former President Abdulla Yameen’s campaign for re-election in 2018. He then exited from the party, citing concerns regarding PPM’s leadership’s vision and the way the party worked.

Now back in MDP, showing full support to President Solih. Whereas, Mohamed Nasheed is yet to make any statement regarding this.
