Government, on Monday, commenced its COVID-19 vaccination program with the inoculation of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed and Chief Justice Ahmed Muhthasim Adnan.
Speaking at the vaccine roll-out function held at the Social Centre in the capital city of Male’, President Solih urged all Maldivians to participate and cooperate with the vaccination effort. He expressed hope that all citizens and residents in Maldives will be vaccinated in the upcoming months.
Dr. Shiraanee Abdul Raheem, medical officer at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital was the first person to receive the Covishield vaccine in the Maldives .Covishield vaccine was provided by India as grant assistance earlier this month
Vaccinations will take place at state-run IGMH in capital Male’ as well as Hulhumale’ Hospital, Vilimale’ Hospital, ADK and TreeTop Hospital. Vaccines will be administered at the Equitorial Hospital in Addu City. The program will be carried out at Kulhuduffushi Regional Hospital in the north.
