The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confiscated the passports of former Road Development Corporation (RDC) Managing Director Moosa “Mookey” Ali Manik and former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Yasir Hassan as part of an investigation into alleged embezzlement of public funds.

A spokesperson from MPS confirmed that the passports were seized on Saturday. This follows a series of raids carried out on Thursday night, targeting several locations linked to the two former executives. Police searched Manik’s residence in Hulhumalé, his ex-wife’s apartment in the same area, and two properties associated with Yasir Hassan. During these searches, officers confiscated various electronic devices as evidence.

The investigation began in November 2023, focusing on suspicions that MVR 14 million was misappropriated from RDC accounts. Police have identified three individuals as primary suspects. According to MPS, MVR 11 million was deposited into one suspect’s account, while the remaining MVR 4 million was funneled through the accounts of two others.

Authorities revealed that 216 transactions were made from RDC’s accounts to an account associated with one of the suspects. Each transaction reportedly involved further transfers to multiple individuals, complicating efforts to trace the funds. Investigators believe the embezzled money was also routed to former government officials and companies affiliated with them.
