Opposition Gains Signatures for President Muizzu’s Impeachment

A push is underway to initiate the impeachment of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, with the necessary signatures already collected, as announced by the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) today.

Collaborating with The Democrats, the MDP is spearheading the effort to impeach President Muizzu. The impetus for this move stems from the disruption of Parliament proceedings by MPs from the ruling coalition, who opposed the decision to reject certain ministerial appointees.

It has been revealed that 34 MPs have endorsed the motion for President Muizzu’s impeachment, surpassing the required 26 signatures for submission.The endeavor to oust President Muizzu follows alterations made by the opposition to the rules of procedure in Parliament pertaining to the impeachment process.
