The leadership of the Jumhooree Party (JP) is dissatisfied with Vice President Faisal Naseem’s statement that he will support MDP’s incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in the upcoming presidential election. Prior to JP announcing their decision, the Vice President publicly endorsed President Solih, stating that he should be given a second term in office for the stability and progress of the country.

This comes after the CEO of the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), who is also a member of JP, expressed his support for President Solih. During a press conference, a special advisor to JP’s leader said that he did not accept this behavior and suggested that both the Vice President and the MTCC CEO should leave the JP if they express their support for another candidate before JP’s official announcement. Although JP has not yet announced their specific candidate, their council has expressed a desire for their leader, Qasim Ibrahim, to run in the election. Despite being a council member of JP, the Vice President has not been involved in JP activities since taking office.
