In a series of questionable leaked videos and photos that involved several high-profile Maldivian men, arrests were finally made on Thursday.

A few weeks ago, videos of a man alleged to be Nazim engaging in sexual relations with a 25-year-old Bangladeshi national, MD Alamgiri, were leaked on social media platforms. Nazim was summoned to the police and questioned regarding the video, and his passport was later withheld in connection to the case.

Similar videos of several other people engaging in sexual acts with the same Bangladeshi man were leaked one after the other, including a 30-minute clip of a Drug Enforcement Department police office

Speaker Nasheed confirmed Nazim’s arrest in a tweet.

In his tweet, Nasheed said his brother’s arrest was selective, and against criminal procedures.

While Nasheed’s tweet suggests that there was influence over the police investigation, the police have denied the allegations.

The Police have been investigating on the case for days now, they finally gave statements that enough evidence has been obtained to proceed with the arrest of these three men- Ahmed Nazim Abdul Sattar, a prominent lawyer and younger brother of Parliament speaker, former president Mohamed Nasheed, former Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed (Colonel Nasheed) and Abdul Rahman Rafeeu, a police officer working for the Drug Enforcement Department (DED). They were allegedly seen in a video engaging in homosexual activity.

Police believe Alamgiri recorded himself having sex with clients, and later used the videos to blackmail them.
