Sri Lankan police arrested 130 Chinese nationals, including 22 women, over the weekend at a luxury hotel in Kundasale, Kandy. According to a report by Daily Mirror, the suspects were allegedly involved in an extensive online fraud operation.

The raid was carried out by the Kandy District Crime Investigation Unit, with several of the suspects managing to flee during the operation. However, police managed to seize a large amount of evidence, including 123 laptops, 206 smartphones, 20 desktop computers, and other equipment used in their cybercriminal activities.

The group had been occupying 47 rooms at the five-star hotel, with the police thoroughly searching every room to find those who attempted to hide. During the initial investigation, the suspects could not provide a valid reason for their stay at the hotel, raising suspicions about their involvement in the criminal activities.

All 130 individuals are expected to be brought before the Theldeniya Magistrate for legal proceedings. The raid was conducted under the leadership of Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Crime Investigation Branch, IP Thilak Samaranayake, following instructions from Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anuruddha Bandaranayaka and Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Lalith Pathinayake.
