The Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure has taken a major step to address the housing crisis in Hinnavaru, Lhaviyani Atoll. The Minister of State for National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure, Akram Kamaluddin, laid the foundation for the construction of 100 housing units in the island. The island is one of the first places in the country that has been facing housing shortages, with many families forced to live in small, inadequate houses. The previous government had already identified Hinnavaru as a priority for land reclamation and housing development.

To tackle this problem, the government has awarded the contract for the construction of 100 housing units to Donbez Private Limited. As part of the project, 50 row houses and 50 individual housing units will be built in an area of 700 square feet each. The units will feature three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a sitting room, a kitchen, a dining room, a balcony, a laundry area and a storeroom. The government has allocated USD 5.4 million under the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) for this project. The contractor has been given one year to complete the project. This housing development project is a significant step towards addressing the housing crisis and providing better living conditions for the people of Hinnavaru.
