Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayake arrived in the Maldives for a three-day state visit. He was warmly welcomed at Velana International Airport (VIA) in the capital by Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu and other top officials.

The President’s Office said the visit will focus on strengthening the partnership between the Maldives and Sri Lanka in ways that benefit both nations. This is Disanayake’s first trip to the Maldives since he took office in September 2024. The visit is special as it coincides with the Maldives celebrating its 60th Independence Day and the 60th year of formal diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The visit “will include bilateral discussions between President Disanayake and President Muizzu, as well as meetings with other senior Maldivian officials,” his media division said. Disanayake will also address a business forum organized by the Sri Lankan High Commission in the Maldives and engage with members of the Sri Lankan community residing there. He is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath and several government officials on the visit scheduled from July 28 to 30.
