Motorcycle accident near central park kills marathon participant

In the early hours of this morning, a devastating collision between a sports car and a motorcycle in front of the Ooredoo head office near Central Park in Hulhumale’ resulted in the tragic death of 23-year-old Hassan Samah.

According to police reports, the incident occurred at 2:48 am when a speeding sports car collided with Samah’s motorcycle. Samah, a Maldives Correctional Service prison officer stationed at Maafushi Prison, had arrived in Male’ to participate in a marathon that began early today in Hulhumale’. Prior to the event, he had spent some quality time with his family.

On the fateful morning, Samah was transporting marathon participants to the venue on his motorcycle when the accident happened. Despite being rushed to Hulhumale’ Hospital with severe head injuries, Samah sadly passed away shortly after receiving medical treatment. Samah, originally from Laamu Atoll Isdhoo, was known for his passion for running and had been actively participating in marathons. He had been in Male’ for the past week in preparation for the event.

A witness reported that Samah had left for the marathon at 1:04 am after having a meal. The collision occurred while he was en route to the event with another person on the motorcycle, who fortunately escaped with minor injuries.

The driver of the sports car, a 26-year-old man, has been arrested by the police. This incident has reignited concerns about the dangers posed by speeding sports cars in Hulhumale’, particularly on weekends. The area near Central Park has previously seen similar incidents, including a fatal collision involving a motorcyclist.

Last month, another accident in Hulhumale’ Phase 2 near Vinares Flats resulted in serious injuries when a car lost control and struck a parked man. The recent crash highlights ongoing issues with traffic safety in the area, raising questions about enforcement and public awareness.
