The students of Raa Dhuvaafaru were forced to come out and welcome President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu upon his arrival on the island on Sunday. Parents received official latter to ensure their children were in full uniform to greet the President. A memo circulated on social media groups instructed parents of Raa Atoll Education Center students to accompany them to the harbor area by 1:00 pm.
However, government circular issued on December 3, 2018, explicitly prohibited bringing out students to welcome government officials. The circular cited concerns about students’ health and the inconvenience caused by prolonged exposure to the sun, which can lead to various health issues and time wastage.
The Ministry of Education stated they were unaware of schools instructing parents to bring students to greet the President at the time.
