Nationwide voting underway in Presidential runoff election

Voting is currently taking place nationwide for the runoff round of the presidential election. A total of 586 polling stations have been established, with 187 in the Male’ region, 319 in the atolls, 65 in resorts, nine in various countries, five in prisons, and one on industrial islands. Voting hours are set from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. In the absence of a queue, polling stations will close at 5:00 pm, and vote counting will commence 30 minutes later.

According to the Elections Commission (EC), there are 282,803 eligible voters in the presidential election, including 403 first-time voters.

The runoff round features the top two candidates who received the most votes in the initial round of the election on September 9. The opposition candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, is leading the race, while President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is seeking a second term.
