On Friday night, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) presented its presidential ticket to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for the upcoming presidential election. The ticket was handed over by MDP’s Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail during a special ceremony held at Carnival area.

President Solih won the MDP primary with 61% of the votes, paving the path for re-election to a second term in office. However, none of Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed’s supporters were seen in attendance. Nasheed’s faction also boycotted the recent MDP National Council meeting where President Solih was authorized to form coalitions on behalf of the party. After the primary, Nasheed and his supporters have been advocating for the formation of a new party called ‘Fikuregge Dhirun’.
