Government to extend visas of Ukrainian tourists in Maldives

Due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the Government of Maldives have decided to grant visa extensions for Ukrainian tourists who wishes to stay in the country until things resolve for better.

Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom states that many Ukrainian tourists are stranded in Maldives, unable to return home because of the invasion on Feb 24 by Russia to their homeland which has led to the suspension of air travels.

He further stated that the authorities were in constant touch with these tourists to facilitate their departures for people who wished to leave Maldives for neighboring countries via different airlines, all in collaboration with Immigration and Foreign Ministry.

The minister also acknowledged that there might be tourists who would like to stay back in Maldives longer, for which the authorities were working to grand visa extensions.

He said that right now they are looking into places where they can be accommodated in a pocket friendly manner if they stay longer.
