President Mohamed Muizzu’s recent speech at the United Nations was a stunning display of deceit and hypocrisy that leaves every Maldivian feeling embarrassed. His words not only misrepresent the situation in the Maldives but also damage the credibility we once held on the international stage. It’s hard to believe he thinks such blatant fabrications could go unnoticed by the global community. Under his leadership, we are losing both trust and respect, a stark contrast to the diplomatic standing maintained during the previous MDP administration.

Misleading Statements on Global Crises
Muizzu painted a dire picture, claiming that humanity is facing a crisis fueled by man-made conflicts. Ironically, he has himself contributed to these tensions through his nationalist rhetoric and divisive policies. His anti-India campaign, later admitted to be a mere tactic for votes, continues to damage our international relationships.

Claims of Inclusivity and Justice
He proclaimed a vision for an inclusive and just society. Yet, just last week, his government limited foreign study loans to the children of diplomats, leaving many students without support. Meanwhile, political bias has tainted job opportunities, and justice is often denied, as seen in recent cases of police negligence.

Economic Transformation Through Strong Institutions
Muizzu asserted that boosting productivity would be key to economic transformation. However, the Anti-Corruption Commission has been severely weakened under his presidency, making it impossible to build a thriving economy that holds the powerful accountable.

Digital Connectivity and Innovation
He promised to enhance digital connectivity and employ artificial intelligence in essential services. Yet, no such advancements have materialized, and initiatives from the previous administration to improve internet access have stalled.

Fabricated Technological Advancements
Muizzu spoke of utilizing 5G technology and drones for medical supplies, but these claims are hollow. The reality is that the Maldives lacks the necessary infrastructure for such innovations, exposing a significant gap between his words and our capabilities.

Promises of Sustainable Transformation
While he claimed that educational and financial systems would undergo transformation, no concrete actions have been taken to support fintech initiatives or modern financial solutions.

Wasted Public Money on Propaganda
Muizzu called for investments in digital literacy but failed to mention the substantial funds being allocated to promote nationalism in schools instead.

Corruption and Unequal Access to Opportunities
He spoke of inclusive development, yet major projects are still awarded to foreign companies while local enterprises face corruption allegations.

Housing Promises Remain Unfulfilled
Despite assurances of adequate housing for all Maldivians, progress has stalled under his administration, leaving many without essential shelter.

Broken Promises for Women Entrepreneurs
Muizzu’s announcement of a $6.5 million loan facility for women entrepreneurs turned out to be another unfulfilled campaign promise.

Delays in Development Projects
His administration has faced criticism for the stalled Fushi Dhiggaru Falhu project, which remains incomplete and has raised concerns about financial transparency.

Damaged Tourism Relations
His government’s actions have strained relations with India, costing the Maldives millions in lost tourism revenue.

Empty Promises and Lack of Action
Muizzu criticized the past for making empty promises while continuing to do the same himself. His pledges remain unfulfilled, reflecting a troubling pattern of inaction.

Environment Concerns Ignored
Despite claiming to champion environmental issues, he previously dismissed the threats to our environment as a “myth.” His recent three-minute concern at the UN feels insincere at best.

Hypocrisy on Palestinian Statehood
He echoed support for a sovereign Palestinian state, yet previously faced backlash from his supporters for similar statements made by the former administration.

Misrepresentation of National Development
While he claims that the Maldives has taken ownership of its development, he contradicts this by acknowledging the need for external support, revealing a lack of self-sufficiency.

Misunderstanding the Role of the UN
Muizzu’s comments about the UN’s limitations indicate a fundamental misunderstanding of international relations and the principles of sovereignty.

President Muizzu’s speech at the UN was a smokescreen filled with contradictions and falsehoods. It highlights a troubling disconnect between his rhetoric and the reality faced by the people of the Maldives. His claims not only undermine our nation’s credibility but also jeopardize our standing in the international community.
