The Finance Ministry has revealed that the President’s Office has spent over MVR 7 million beyond its approved budget this year. According to the Ministry’s latest weekly fiscal report, the office had incurred expenses of MVR 213.9 million as of December 11, exceeding its total annual allocation of MVR 206.8 million.
This means the President’s Office has gone over budget by MVR 7.1 million. However, this overspending is still lower than last year’s figures, when expenditures for the same period reached MVR 222 million.
The office’s budget is largely consumed by staff salaries and travel costs. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has increased his visits to the country’s atolls and has been holding community gatherings in Male’ as preparations for the upcoming Local Council Elections intensify, adding to the overall spending.
