In an incident reported to the police, it has been revealed that Addu Mayor Ali Nizar’s car was sprayed with “India Out” slogan last night., while it was parked outside his home.
“I believe this was done by people who fell for the hate being propagated by these politicians. They can only do something simple like this, right?” he said.
Nizar further expressed that such uncivilized acts conducted by some goons to disrupt public’s peace and vandalizing public property in the name of some ‘protest’ needs to be dealt and action must be taken by the authorities.
In addition to spraying the mayor’s car, the “India Out” expression was also sprayed on the wall of Fenaka Hithadhoo Office.
Earlier, cases of “India Out” being written on the walls of several other islands of the country were also reported to the police.
The incident comes ahead of the opening of the India-funded College of Security and Law Enforcement in Addu. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid, and Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar are scheduled to visit Addu to attend the event.
India Out is the campaign spearheaded by the opposition coalition and leader former President Abdulla Yameen. The event calls for the evacuation of Indian military personnel stationed in the Maldives.
‘Neyva Holhiah’ mass rally at Male’ City yesterday is a part of the ‘India Out’ campaign that was held despite clear warnings by the police that was against the holdings of this protest.
The campaign has been heavily criticized by the government and the Parliament and has repeatedly called for an end to it.
